Overview
Flooring Assessments are an established Doncaster company providing training courses and apprenticeships for flooring installers across the UK.
The brief
Using a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet to track and manage the day to day running of the business was proving to be problematic. At a brainstorming meeting, Centre Manager Dave Brown outlined his ideas and vision for an online application that could be used by the management team, finance department and assessors to streamline the running of the business.
Solution
With a clear understanding of requirements, the first stage was to document the information architecture of this technically complex website. This resulted in a series of detailed wireframe diagrams documenting the layouts, features and functions of the system for both administrators and users of the site. The creative website design followed next, with the Flooring Assessment brand being applied to the various page layouts to produce graphical user interface designs appropriate for such a highly functional application.
It was clear early on that ExactCMS (content management system) provided an ideal platform on which to develop the additional bespoke extranet features. Due to the experience and skills of our in-house developers, the web development phase was relatively straight forward with features including:
- Manage employers, retailers and apprentice groups
- Manage and track individual learners throughout their training
- Manage assessors and associate them to learners
- Advanced user management (administrators & users)
- Advanced search facilities to quickly find learners
- Bespoke reporting capabilities
- Bespoke calendar for easy team management
The final stage involved the import of data from an Excel spreadsheet to populate the database, followed by in-house platform and browser testing. At this stage, we were ready to present to our clients for user acceptance testing which resulted in minor modifications and refinements before launch and training of ExactCMS.
